HOW DID I GET HERE?
Currently I live between Los Angeles, California and the Gold Coast, Australia after securing my first overseas contract in early 2016.
I'm presenting, producing travel videos and continuing to represent brands with whom I have a long standing relationship with.
This year was a very busy but rewarding year for me! I taught myself how to shoot and edit - opening up a world of opportunties.
Much of the year was also spent travelling as I began producing my own travel videos for companies like Gold Coast Tourism, Pure Brandz and Taltarni Wines. Documenting my time on the road through @amberdiscovers.
In this time I made numerous trips to the Whitsundays to host events like the Whitsunday Reef Festival and the Airlie Beach Airshow.
While back home on the Gold Coast, a new relationship was formed with Apollo Films presenting many of it's corporate videos, on top of my continued work with Nine Gold Coast News and McGrath Estate Agents!
I graduated from St Hilda’s Senior School on the Gold Coast in 2007, before starting a three-year Bachelor of Journalism degree at Griffith University the following year. There I specialised in politics and cultural sociology, completed an internship with Channel Nine Gold Coast and even received the ‘Griffith Award for Academic Excellence 2010’ when I was done.
My break into television came when I was just 20-years old; when Channel Nine approached me to present the live weather on the Gold Coast on a temporary basis. Not only was it my first time to air, but it was live - I still remember the adrenaline rush to this day! This work led to more, not only as a weather presenter but also a news reporter; putting my degree to good use.
My growing profile at the time saw me become the face of Eco Tan. I still have a great relationship with the company today and have loved every minute of working with Sonya and her amazing team.
The same month I finished University, I began casual work in the newsroom of SeaFM and GoldFM on the Gold Coast. What started as one-day a week, quickly turned into more; as Queensland was inundated by floods and Victoria hit by fires. I was forced to learn quick in a fast paced environment; writing and delivering the news for numerous Southern Cross Austereo stations affected by the natural disasters. I stayed with the company for the next 18-months, helping produce and present the local news on the Gold Coast, with B105 in Brisbane and other stations throughout Western Australia.
After a trip-of-a-lifetime to Africa, I returned to a job with NBN Northern Rivers. So I packed my bags and moved to Byron Bay! Over the next year my position as a local reporter saw me cover everything from major natural disasters, festivals, sport and some pretty heated protests and rallies. Being one of only two journalists covering such a diverse region, I was quickly shaped into a more mature and well-rounded journalist.
The same year I formed a much cherished partnership with Taltarni Wines. To this day, I still host fabulous fashion, food and wine events on their behalf.
In 2013 I took a leap of faith and joined global franchise network PlatinumHD; a role which would see me move back to the Gold Coast with my family and friends. Although I was stepping out of the news world, I was excited for a new challenge and the opportunity to advance my presenting and producing skills in the rapidly growing world of ‘online marketing’. I was contracted exclusively to McGrath Estate Agents to help develop and launch innovative presenter-based real estate marketing videos. A job that would see me travel anywhere from Townsville to Sydney – researching, writing and presenting up to four 1 to 3 minute videos on any given day. Thanks to this role, I’ve not only grown as a presenter, but i’ve discovered many amazing towns and cities along the east coast of Australia and seen through some of their most impressive homes.
In early 2014 I realised that while I’ve been lucky enough to travel all around the world, I hadn’t yet discovered enough of my own backyard. So when the opportunity came to write about exciting foodie, spa, travel and luxury experiences from across Australia and on the Gold Coast for The Great Aussie Bite - I jumped at the chance!
The same year I also started an exciting new partnership with Pure Brandz. With my passion for travel and nature, and their ethos to ‘travel far, live pure’ - it was the perfect fit. As their brand ambassador, I’m lucky enough to be one of the first to see and try their latest gear and be part of a company making a positive difference in the world.
